I finally got to try the Famous Haugen's in Port Perry. This has been on my list since I saw it on Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here. My first impressions were it's a huge restaurant. Way larger than I expected. The decor is old school which is fine with me since I'm here for the food.
I had the Chicken and Rib Combo. It's a quarter chicken with a 1/3 rack of ribs with your choice of side. I went with the fries but you could get coleslaw, baked potato, salad etc.Let's start with the chicken. Extra juicy and super tender. It was a fairly large portion since I decided to go for the white meat. It was not dry at all super hot and fresh. One thing I noticed was the chicken was not salty at all! It was perfectly seasoned. The ribs were very tender. They still had a bit of a chew to them which I like. The bbq sauce on the ribs was nice, a little smokey a little sweet. The fries were super crispy and fresh cut. They were excellent. The dinner roll was nice and soft a perfect side to this meal. The meal also came with some dipping sauce. I forgot to take a photo of it it but it was like a Tomato type sauce. For me it was Ok I'm not a huge tomato sauce guy so maybe next time I will try and see if they have any other sauces available. Overall the meal was great.
I was very full after all that food but I saved some room for some pie! I went with the Coconut Creme Pie! It was a nice sized piece. Nice and creamy and it hit the spot. My wife had the strawberry pie and I think that was the winner! It was super loaded up with strawberry and topped with whipped cream. We will definitely be back to Haugen's! The prices are fair and the food is great. I also want to shout out to the servers they were super nice and very efficient. We felt very welcomed by all.
Check out Haugen's you won't be disappointed. -

I had the chicken and ribs it was a little pricey. The issue wasn't thechicken or ribs it's the sauces they offered. BBQ or another. The bbq sauce tasted exactly like tomato soup and the other sauce was gravy.
I asked if it was the same as the sauce on the ribs and waitress replied "oh that's different". Hmm. It wasn't offered on the menu.
At any rate was not worth the 68.00 for 2 chicken n rib dinners, ice tea and a tea -

Was at Great Blue Heron and, heading home decided to stop here for lunch. Given that it was a Tuesday and just before noon, there weren't many people in the restaurant. The place is huge, so it seemed quite empty even though in a small restaurant there might be a line out the door.
Decided to have the chicken and ribs combo since there was a special on the plate ($3 off). It's advertised as 1/4 dark meat chicken and 1/3 ribs (about 4 bones) with a side. I went with a salad, no dressing.
Got the dish, and... well, it's basically the same kind of food you get at Swiss Chalet. Chicken and ribs tasted about the same too. I wouldn't call any of it spectacular, but it's tasty and it's unlikely you'll leave anything but bones on your plate.
The sauce was a bit different. I had the "tomato-based" dipping sauce, and it was maybe a little too tomatoey for my liking, but the chicken paired well with it when I dunked the meat in.
The salad was fine, nothing special, but some of the leaves were verging on old. In hindsight, I should have ordered fries, but I wasn't really in the mood for potatoes at the time.
In conclusion, if you like Swiss Chalet you'll like this place. I don't think there's a Swiss Chalet in the area, but even if there was I'd say to go here and support a local establishment. -

Great service. The ribs and chicken met our expectations. Moist meat and great flavour. A real nice family style restaurant. We will definitely be back.

I went out with my mother and father to Haugen's. We were greeted by friendly service. After we were seated the took our order almost immediately and quickly got our food out. My father ordered chicken and fries. My mother ordered chicken wrap. And for myself I ordered Fries and gravy. My mother said her wrap was excellent and it was a big wrap so it definitely left her satisfied. My father enjoyed his chicken but started feeling sick. The chicken was cooked he said he had a slight headache going in so he didn't think it was his dinner. My burger was nothing special and tasted like the average restaurant burger, the bun was a amazing bun and bacon cheese was also good the part that ruined it was the meat witch was ok, the fries are definitely recommended here, they were crispy and golden and the gravy complimented them heavily. Over all I have a few recommendations
1. Use mustard bottles instead of packets
2. Add straws and less ice In drinks
